BCCI will get around 40% of ICC's annual net earnings — BCCI

The International Cricket Council (ICC) board on Thursday approved a new revenue-distribution model which ensured that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) got the lion’s share of ICC’s annual net earnings.

While no other Full Member has a percentage share in double digits, the Board of Control for Cricket in India will get up to 40% of ICC’s annual net earnings which would make around $230 million annually from 2024 to 2027 — or 38.5% of ICC's approximate annual earnings of $600 million.

Pakistan will get 5.75 percent of the total revenue earned by the ICC, which would make around $34.51 million yearly.

The England Cricket Board (ECB) and Cricket Australia (CA) will get 6.89 and 6.25 percent, which would make around $41 and 37.35 million per year respectively.

The earnings of the remaining eight Full Members fall below 5% with New Zealand, West Indies, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, South Africa, Ireland, Zimbabwe and Afghanistan completing the standings in that order.

ICC Full Members will receive 88.81 percent of the annual earnings, while Associate Members will receive 11.19 percent. Making around $532.84 million to full members and $67.5 million to associate members.

The criteria - "component weightings", as they are called in the model - are: cricket history; performance in both men's and women's ICC events over the last 16 years; contribution to the ICC's commercial revenue; and an equal weightage for the status of being a Full Member.

It must be noted that when this model was proposed in May, PCB Management Committee then-Chairman Najam Sethi expressed his disappointment on the model.

"We are not happy with the situation as it stands,” Sethi told Reuters from London in May.

"When the board is expected to approve the financial model, unless these details are provided to us, we are not going to approve it."

Sethi admitted that India deserves a significant share since it generates an estimated 80 percent of ICC revenue.

"In principle, India should get more, there is no doubt about that but ... how is this table being developed?" Sethi said.
